The jungle in and around Hong Kong is facing a constant battle against further urbanisation and human interference under the influence of global climate change (extreme rain events... higher risk of land slides and slope erosion). Every year millions of Hong Kongers flood to the city’s green lungs encircled by the gridlocked urban jungle in order to enjoy the soothing greens and stunning views, while its banks and slopes are incrementally fortified with acres of concrete. Materialising as human-made reinforcement structures, slope walls, ditches and drainages, the number of untouched biotopes shrinks continuously. While some of its views are still genuine, an increasing part of the tropical forest is getting paved left and right to secure closeby city dwellings from mudslides or flash floods, catalysed by the increasingly extreme weather phenomena caused by more extreme weather patterns.
